On this day in history, May 25th, 1787, the Constitutional Convention began in Philadelphia lasted through September 17. At this time, the United States of America had been operating under the Articles of Confederation following independence from Great Britain. Although the Convention was intended to revise the Articles of Confederation, many of its proponents- like James Madison and Alexander Hamilton- wanted to create a new government rather than fix the existing one. The delegates elected George Washington to preside over the Convention and the end result of the Convention was the creation of the United States Constitution. #ProgressIsPossible
