This Day In History: Amelia Earhart was Born

On this day in history, July 24th 1898, American pilot Amelia Earhart was born in Atchison, Kansas. She became the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic and to fly solo from Hawaii to California. She perished during a flight from New Guinea to Howland Island over the Pacific Ocean on July 3, 1937.
