On this day in history, July 14th, 1913, Gerald R. Ford, the 38th U.S. President, was born in Omaha, Nebraska, as Leslie Lynch King Jr. His parents separated two weeks after his birth, and his mother remarried when Ford was two. He changed his name after his stepfather, Gerald Rudolph Ford Jr.
In 1973, Ford was appointed Vice President following the resignation of Spiro T. Agnew. He then became president on August 9, 1974, following the resignation of Richard M. Nixon. He was the first non-elected Vice President and non-elected President of the U.S. #ThisDayInHistory
