On October 13, Molly Pitcher (1754-1832) was born near Trenton, New Jersey as Mary Ludwig. She was a water carrier at the Battle of Monmouth in 1778 during the American Revolution. After her husband, artilleryman John Hays, collapsed, she took his place at his cannon.
